Fireplace/Mantel – Decorating for Fall

Well it’s September so I can officially say Happy Fall, Y’all! Right?! Ha. I know it’s early but this is the first Fall with our Faux Fireplace and I couldn’t hold off any longer to decorate! I used many things I already had. I like to shop around my own home; but also purchased a few new things – one of them being the darling pumpkins from Hobby Lobby seen on the chair and sitting around the floor. I am big on pattern mixing and using a variety of textures and items. I styled our fireplace as one big, cozy vignette. Hope you enjoy and are inspired for Fall decor. Yay!

FireplaceAdd some Target dollar aisle orange twine to your decor for a festive touch.

The darling bow pillow and herringbone blanket are from Target. LOVE. Added a white pumpkin and twig picks from Hobby Lobby to set in my pillow/throw basket vignette 🙂

Fireplace4

Made the cute ampersand by purchasing the black chalkboard clipboard for $1 at Target and a pack of burlap symbols/numbers for $3 from the Target dollar aisle. Makes for a simple and cute decor piece.

Love these bright and glittery pumpkin + pinecone fillers from Hobby Lobby.

Decorate around your larger items using picks from Hobby Lobby (seen here: white pumpkin pick and corn bunch picks)

The vintage chair is from my husband’s childhood and looks so darling with my new Hobby Lobby pumpkins. I added a sunflower pick and autumn color twig pick to the chair, also from Hobby Lobby.

I just love this birdcage I’ve had from Hobby Lobby and wanted to keep it up for Fall so added some fun mini pinecones and pumpkin filler.

What do you think? Like I said, this is the first year we have the faux fireplace so to say I enjoyed styling it would be an understatement. YAY! I plan to redecorate for Halloween in October but loving this setup for September! I’ll probably move things around on the daily, but that’s just what I do. Ha! Happy Fall, Y’all!

Grandparents Day 2015 Gift Idea + Free Printable

G

Grandparents Day is Sunday, September 13th and I have a fun, easy and affordable gift idea that I think you {and the Grandparents} will love! Mpix.com is my favorite place to print my photos – the quality is AMAZING! One of my favorite products is their accordion minis – they are small, almost like a wallet size and easy to stick in your purse, or back pocket. I like to call them little “brag book of photos” that Grandparents can quickly take out and show off their precious grandchildren to family and friends. I love it! I made one for each set of my daughter’s Grandparents and Great Grandma. I also created a quick printable you can download, print, cut out and adhere on top of them using a glue dot or you could even attach with a hole punch and ribbon 🙂 Easy peasy and oh so cute! Hope you enjoy!

Decorating for Early Fall/Late Summer

EFDII know, I know, Fall is just less than a month away but once school starts I really get the itch to start decorating. The crisp early mornings are really getting me in the mood for what’s ahead. (Minus cold/flu season, ha!) The local apple orchards open on Friday so thought it would be the perfect excuse to decorate my handy three tiered tray (from Sam’s Club) for the upcoming season with apple decor, fall colors and foliage. Yay!! I love the fun new tablecloth I scored at TJMaxx for $14.99. It’s the perfect colors for end of summer/early fall!

What do you think? Are you ready for Fall or not yet? I feel like this is subtle, yet just enough to get me in the mood for apple orchards, bonfires and the crisp fall air! 🙂

Bathroom Makeover – Styled Target Shelf

SHELFIESo I realize I say I love things or am obsessed with things way too often, but I’m both of those things right now! I’ve had my eye on this Target shelf for awhile now, and when I saw it on sale I bought it as quick as I could! I’ve seen many different ways to style it in homes, whether in a craft room or living room but have not seen it in a bathroom. I had so much fun styling it – using the color schemes of the shower curtain I also got at Target a few months ago. Smitten with the orange and light blue with a little white and green thrown in. Makes me so happy walking into the room!

I simply used mason jars I had laying around to hold q-tips, cotton balls and floss picks for easy access. Simply added some ribbon, because who doesn’t love ribbon? I really dislike things sitting around the sink so this works perfectly to hold my favorite Bath and Body works lotion and candles until I need to use them 🙂  The only thing I bought was the light blue owl candle, also from Target.

I made the “So Fresh and So Clean Clean” printable design and you can download it below by right clicking on the photo and saving it to your computer to print. Yay! It’s sized 4×6. Enjoy!!

FINALBATHROOMFILE

I hope you enjoy and find some inspiration. I’ve seen these shelves styled SO many cute ways – it’s so fun! Would be so cute to decorate for holidays as well. If you have one, I’d love to see how you styled it – tag me on Instagram! Username is ellerydesigns, I’ll be sharing some of my favorites!

Handmade Faux Fireplace + Mantel

So I’m a little late getting to this post but it’s finally here! The amazing DIY faux fireplace my hubby hand built turned out just perfect! I forgot what our living room looked like before we had this. Officially obsessed. I cannot wait to decorate this for Fall and Christmas time! Finally a mantel to style!

This was definitely a labor of love. We decided on painting it all white to make it really pop. My favorite touch is the added shelves, perfect for my decorating loving self. 😉 The mantel is stained using the same color as our DIY Floating Shelves since in the dining room on the opposite wall.  Here are a few photos showing the progress. (sorry for the quality, quick iPhone photos…)

image3

image1

When it came to decorating this, I knew I wanted to stay away from the traditional mirror and bookend style floral pieces that are often seen when you think of styling a mantel. I love decor so I decorated it with a vignette style in mind. The large sign by jaxnblvd seen in the middle is one of my favorite quotes. The frame, the script, the font, everything is just perfection. It reminds me to search for moments, whether childhood moments or those from just a few weeks ago. I also highly suggest to not only decorate the mantel, but also around it as well. It really makes it much more inviting and adds such a cozy feel to the space. My husband did a fabulous job, as always, building this piece and I had so much fun decorating it! He even moved our wall outlet up so I can add some lights around the holidays. I went with a gold and gray color scheme with white, dark brown and kelly green accents. What do you think? Would love to hear your feedback in the comments, I always write back 🙂 Hope you leave with a little inspiration for your next project…

Master Bedroom Makeover – Gold + Gray Rustic Glam

collageroom2

Hi friends! So this was a fun little makeover. Nothing major – didn’t paint, didn’t get new furniture, but what a world of difference some new bedding and decor makes in this room. It was the one room in the house that was majorly neglected. I mean the before photo speaks for itself – wowsa! 😉 I bought the new bedding and pillows right after Christmas at Kohl’s – I decided on a gold and gray theme with added white and dark brown/wood tones. I love the rustic meets glam feel. All of the sources are listed on the bottom of this post. I’m so happy walking into this room now and it gives off such a loving feeling – because LOVE is what matters most, right?! Hope you love it and it gives you some inspiration. There are many different patterns and textures used throughout – especially the bedding. Would love to know what your favorite part is – leave me a comment and I’ll write you back 🙂

It’s a Girl – Navy + Pink Nautical Baby Shower

SCollage2

Hi friends! It’s been a busy Summer so far! I’m so excited to share this whaley-cute baby shower today. I had the honor to co-host this baby shower for our dear friend who is expecting a baby girl later this Summer. Yay! Her nursery is going to be water/fish themed so I thought how fun to go along with that and do a nautical whale, anchor theme in a pink, navy and aqua color scheme. So bright and cheery – perfect for a Summer shower!

It was a beautiful, sunny day celebrating our dear friend and baby who we all can’t wait to meet! We had delicious Mexican food for lunch and we decorated a small dessert table. One of the shower hostesses is the cookie queen who makes the cutest cookies ever – the little sailboats were my favorite! We decorated the backdrop with matching personalized onesies and outfits that all matched the theme. I adore the “You are so Loved” print from Katie Daisy on Etsy. Her prints are gorgeous and I thought it would be cute to use in the baby room after the shower. The mini diaper cakes were too cute and I added a matching headband made by AMK’s Boutique around each one. Such fun and simple centerpieces! The pond they have in their back yard even went with our water theme! I also just LOVED the custom “It’s a Girl” banner made by Stampin’ Fanatic. The detail was amazing and was perfect for the event – thank you Kristin!

Instead of a card, each guest brought a book instead and wrote a little note inside for baby which is always so fun to see which books everyone chooses to bring. So many good ones! I found the cute whale heart printable on Etsy to use as a guestbook alternative. Each guest wrote their name and a small message on each heart and can act as a keepsake or could even be framed for the baby room.

Since we got her many new outfits for the baby, I bought a container of Dreft and added a cute little saying with some tulle. I’m all about simple and sweet added touches to make the day complete. It was the perfect day celebrating the mama to be, alongside her closest friends. So excited to meet this precious baby girl!! XOXO

Navy + Hot Pink Bridal Shower

V16Last month we hosted a Bridal Shower for my sister’s upcoming wedding. You can purchase the invitation in my etsy shop. I wanted it to be simple but really played into her colors and styled a mini dessert table featuring pretty cupcakes from Sweet Dreams. My friend Ann made the beautiful cookies that we gave out as favors. I adore the “Soon to Be Mrs.” Banner from Piggy Bank Parties – their banners are always amazing! More pictures are below along with the vendors listed at the end in case you’re wondering where something is from. Hope you enjoy!

Monster High Party – Cami’s 6th Birthday!

PicMonkey Collage1

SIX. Can you even believe it?! This year Cami chose a Monster High themed party since that is her absolute favorite right now! I had so much fun with this theme using a black, white, hot pink and aqua color scheme along with some major pattern mixing. This was her first all girls party, plus they were all her age so to say they had a blast would be an understatement!

First off, isn’t her tee THE cutest ever?! Rachel from *golden* made her custom tee and yes she hand cuts and sews everything herself – eeek!! I love how she incorporated the 6 in there along with glitter; because glitter makes everything better, am I right?!

I adore the custom banners seen on the wall that Piggy Bank Parties made for her party – the detail is amazing and they look perfect! They even sent me the bow garland as a surprise and it was PERFECT!! I made the fabric garland that is draped underneath the bow garland. I’ve been making those garlands since Cami was three and I hadn’t made one in a while so thought it would be a fun touch! I’m obsessed with the fabric pennant banner and sparkly black star banner that is seen across the front of the table handmade by Amy of Pearl and Jane. It’s soo pretty and I love how it sparkles! As you can tell, I really like banners! 🙂

I didn’t go overboard with the sweets this year. My friend made the adorable cake that I simply added some sixlets around. Paige from Polka Dot Bakery made the cutest matching cupcakes and I dressed them up using cupcake toppers I bought on etsy. The cookies. I can’t even begin to describe these totally amazing cookies hand painted by Sandy of Firefly Confections. Her talent is pure genius and I can’t even think of words to express how amazing these are!

The light up “PARTY” DIY Marquee Letters are from Heidi Swapp’s line at Michael’s which if you follow me on Instagram, you know are my new favorite thing!! The lights are battery operated and the options are endless when it comes to decorating the letters! SO fun! My sister is a florist so she made the gorgeous flower arrangements and I also decorated some of the areas using Cami’s favorite Monster High Dolls.

One of my favorite things are the Monster High Dolls we gave away as party favors. I was on the hunt for them months before to find them on clearance/sale so it didn’t break the bank and all the girls LOVED them! They were all so excited to take one home and for many of them, it was their first one! I didn’t spend much more than I would have on a typical goodie bag that let’s be honest, is normally full of junk.

I also loved the Monster High Student ID Name cards I found on etsy. I had them printed on a removeable sticker paper so they could wear them around like ID Badges 🙂 So fun! Thanks for listening to me ramble – now on to the pretty pictures! I hope you find something that inspires you for your next party!

Our Finished Basement – Gray, Yellow + Turquoise

FINALBASEMENTToday I’m sharing with you our newly finished basement. (Not really new anymore – it’s been almost two years but I finally made time to finish this post!) I LOVE decorating, especially a brand new space. We’ve lived in our home for 8.5 years now so it was nice to be able to decorate using my new favorite styles and colors. The rest of our home is very traditional and modern with a little country feel and the basement is modern and bright!

My wonderful hubby did an amazing job – he did everything himself (minus the carpet!) A big shout-out to his Dad for helping him frame it, as well as with some of the electrical work.

I have to admit, when I decorate, I typically have all the decor purchased before it was even done. Most people think I’m crazy b/c you don’t know how it’s going to look or if it’ll work but most of the time I love how it turns out. I had a few things that I ended up taking back that I didn’t end up liking but normally I have a vision and just go with it! I only buy things I LOVE and want to look at every day – not just things to fill up a space. The only thing I didn’t pick out were the three door panels seen on the back wall – Ryan picked those out at Kirkland’s and are one of my favorite pieces 🙂 And how about those distressed gray and white table + chairs set I scored at our local flea market last Fall? Obsessed.

I also love a good deal – everything I got at Hobby Lobby was either 50% off or from the clearance section. All of the light gray vases and pieces came as a set with our furniture. As did the lamps, that were originally brown but Ryan spray painted them my favorite yellow color by Rust Oleum – “Marigold”. Totally love them! And yes, we even bought them knowing we were going to spray them since we didn’t like any of the ones to choose from. Spray paint is our friend! 🙂 My hubby alsomade the two sconces seen on the sides of the TV using the old hand rail that used to lead us to the unfinished basement. How cool! He spray painted them, did a little distressing and added a chevron fabric behind them and made them into candle sconces. So fun!

I just love our bathroom – we bought the tile from Menards and I love how it looks like a wood floor. Wish my whole house had this floor! One of my favorite spots is the built in niche. My sister (who is a floral designer) helped me make the flower arrangement – again, we bought everything at Hobby Lobby 50% off to make it. Totally obsessed with their burlap flower selection! So fun!

That brown wicker chair has been sitting in our bedroom for over a year just taking up space, plus it didn’t even match. We used to have it in my office but when we re-did that last year it didn’t fit anymore but voila! Works perfectly for the basement! As you can tell, I’m a pillow lover – most of them are from Target or Pier One. You can never have too many! I used to have an issue with mixing colors, especially grays and browns but I really love how the brown accents, such as the end tables, look with the gray. If anyone is interested our paint color is Fieldstone by Pittsburgh Paints. It kind of photographs with a blue-ish tone but it really is a true gray. Just wish it looked more gray but especially at night, it doesn’t always look gray. Oh well. Win some, lose some. Gray is a tough one! Once Ryan put all of the trim and doors up it did look a little bit more blue than I was wanting but what are you gonna do? 🙂

So what do you think? I hope you like it! Everyone has their own style but I’m obsessed with turquoise and yellow combo this past year so just went with it! It makes me so happy walking down the stairs and seeing this bright and cheery space that we can now enjoy!
