DIY: Bring cupcakes in STYLE!

One of my daughter’s little friends turns three tomorrow (I should say TODAY though since I’m writing this the night before it’ll be up). His mom watches Cami once a week and it happens to be his birthday so of course we have to make cupcakes! I decided to spice it up a bit and send them along in style. Thought I would show you this SUPER easy way of making your treats look cute and guess what?! You will be able to download these files for FREE next week to make your own cupcake toppers. There will be a few different versions, but they will all have the generic “Happy Birthday!” in an array of color schemes! Stay tuned!
Now….for the goodies! First, I had a couple of extra polka dot gable boxes laying around so figured they would be perfect to transport the cupcakes. I bought these from Shop Sweet Lulu, which is my absolute FAVORITE shop to purchase party decor. Head on over there…you’ll be instantly hooked and the best part is everything ships out ridiculously fast. I also had the tissue paper fringe laying around (also from Shop Sweet Lulu) so adhered it around the box for an added touch.
{Side note…I did this project on a whim so I took all of the photos quickly on my iPhone and edited them in Picnik. If you don’t know what Picnik is all I can say is, sorry! You better get your butt over there like now. I’m the furthest thing from being a photographer and need all the help I can get so using picnik to edit helps out tremendously.

I then used my 2 inch scalloped circle punch to punch out my toppers.

I used some stripey paper straws (Shop Sweet Lulu) I had laying around and cut them in half to use as my base for the toppers. I normally use white craft sticks or the craft wood sticks (look similar to toothpicks) but thought these would be way cuter 🙂

Taped the straw to the back of the topper.  I normally use 1 inch white circular labels  from Office Max to adhere on the back, but since these straws are a bit bigger I just simply used some tape.

Insert your completed topper in the cupcake and voila!

Six pretty cupcakes sitting in a Gable Box….
I added a little tag on the front to personalize it….which will also be available as FREE a free download next week. Are you excited?!
I mean really, how easy is that? Perfect idea for your kids to take to school for their birthday’s, playdates, girls nights, or bring to the office for a co-worker’s birthday or luncheon. Quick, fun and you’ll look like you spent some time on something that took five minutes. I hope you try this for your next get-together and if you do send me your photos! Happy cupcaking! 🙂

Spooks, Spiders + Spells Halloween Collection

I’m so excited to show you my 2011 Halloween Party Collection 🙂 Eeeek!!! It was featured on my favorite site, HWTM, yesterday!! You can read the feature right here.
My hubby had the grand idea of using straw bales as the backdrop and I just love how it turned out. We’re fortunate enough to have them on-hand since my Dad has a shed full of them for his animals so I setup this shoot in my parents backyard 🙂 This was also my first styled shoot outside. Despite the wind knocking everything over a million times, it was a beautiful day for a photoshoot.

This Collection is perfect for a children’s Halloween party or even an adult party. Spiders were the main element used throughout and I love the ever-so-popular color scheme of black, orange, lime and purple. Most importantly, I cannot thank the fabulous vendors enough who helped make this perfect. Did you see the matching *golden* tee, custom sugar cookies, spooky cake pops, adorable decor? AMAZING!!!

Now the not so fun part about this shoot was that I was sick the week leading up to the shoot (which was on a Sunday morning). I had a really bad ear infection and actually ended up going to the emergency room right after the photographer left b/c I couldn’t take it anymore. (Luckily I did because it turned out I was misdiagnosed with an inner ear infection when it was really an outer). So needless to say, I’m thrilled how this turned out because I was {this} close to canceling it.

A *huge* thank you to the below vendors for their amazing custom products + goodies! You can purchase this full DIY Printable Collection in my etsy shop.

New to the Shop: Christmas Tree Card Holder

I’m super excited to share with you our newest product — a magnetic Christmas Tree Card Holder. The little red ornament balls are magnetic so you can add your cards to the tree as you get them 🙂 It can hold up to 16 cards for you to display during the holidays! The cards shown are all 5×7. It also makes for great decor until your holiday cards start rolling in 🙂 My hubby came up with this one-of-a-kind design and I couldn’t be more excited about the outcome! I just love it and hope you do too! You can purchase one of these in my etsy shop 🙂

Can you tell me how to get to Sesame Street?

The most popular question I get on a daily basis is “Where did you buy that or how did you do that?” All questions related to my daughter’s Elmo inspired 2nd birthday party I styled back in April. I can’t tell you how excited I am about how popular this collection is in my etsy shop. It’s unreal actually. So I thought I would dedicate a post that I can refer people back to that can help them gather ideas and find out where I bought everything. 🙂 If you haven’t seen my daughter’s Elmo party, go check out the feature (eeek! so exciting!) over on the HWTM Blog, here.

First off, you can purchase all of the DIY printable files in my etsy shop. (Invitation, Happy Birthday Banner, Cupcake Toppers, Thank You Tags, Water Bottle Labels and more!) What is a DIY printable file, you ask? Well first off, because of time, I have resorted to selling all of my products in my shop as DIY printables b/c I just don’t have the time to print, assemble and ship everything to you. I would love nothing more than to do so, but I just can’t so that’s where you come in and I promise, you can do it! 🙂 You can either print from home (I recommend using a cardstock to print everything which you can find at your local Michael’s or Hobby Lobby) or send to a local printer to have them professionally printed from Kinko’s, Office Max, or any local printer of your choice. All of the files are sent to you already setup in an easy 8.5 x 11 setup so you can simply just open the file and print on a regular sheet of cardstock or paper.

Now on to the questions….. 🙂
1. Where did you find that shimmery paper that is behind the happy birthday banner?
—-> Hobby Lobby. They sell almost every color. I bought the hot pink. They are single 12×12 sheets that are placed in those paper trays with the other specialty papers. I believe they are $1.99 each so they aren’t very cheap when you need to buy quite a few. You can cut the sheets to matte around your banner and use adhesive or glue to adhere.
2. Where did you find that yellow and orange tablecloth?
—-> It’s actually satin fabric found in the Hobby Lobby fabric section. I bought a large piece of yellow and a small piece of orange that I placed down the center. To be honest, I didn’t even do anything to the edges b/c I can’t sew (sad, I know…haha) and you don’t even notice them in pictures or even close up.
3. What kind of paper do I buy to print the water bottle labels on?
—-> I outsource most of my printing to a local professional printer who prints them on a waterproof sticker paper. You could do the same or use Kinko’s, etc. or you can purchase sticker paper from Office Max or Staples to print from home. 🙂
4. Where did you buy that adorable shirt your daughter is wearing?
—-> The fabulous *golden*. She can create any custom tee so be sure to contact her so she can create the perfect tee for your party! She’s the BEST.
5. How did you make the Sesame Street sign?
—-> We sell this sign in our etsy shop. You can purchase it here. My wonderful husband cretaed this design and works very hard on them to make each one perfect. It’s the most talked about item from her party. You won’t be disappointed!
6. Where did you get those tulle looking wands?
—-> Purchased from The Sugared Ribbon on etsy. They are super cute and great for play after the party.
7. Where did you get those cake pops?
—-> The fabulous Lillycakes. She also made the Elmo cupcakes.
8. And those adorable Elmo cookies?
—-> The ever-so-fabulous The Cookie Jar. They can make all of the characters, too! So perfect!
9. Where did you find those polka dot balloons and tissue paper flowers seen on the mantle?
—-> My most favorite party site, Shop Sweet Lulu. Also purchased from there: red polka dot cups that held the goldfish.
10. Where did you find the orange and red polka dot plates?
—-> Target
11. Where did you find those cute buckets/pails and polka dot pinwheels?
—-> Hobby Lobby. I also purchased those crazy straw sippy cups and ribbon.
12.  Where did you find those small frames that list the sweets?
—-> Michael’s dollar aisle.
13. Where did you find your funky outfit?
—-> Oh yes, I was super bright but I had to fit in with the party, right?! Haha. My yellow dress was from JCPenney, orange sweater shall + pink belt from Old Navy. Yellow headband was a last minute decision (stole it out of one of the little girls treat bags that ended up not coming! Haha) Borrowed hot pink heels from my BFF. 🙂
14. How did you keep the ribbon from falling around your bins that held the pop and water?
—-> I didn’t. 😉 It fell many times. It’s hard to keep ribbon to stay around something so big and round. Super glue may be your best option but since the bins were rubber I didn’t want to risk it. P.S. My mom bought those bins at Target the day before the party. They were super cheap and now used for toy bins at my house. 🙂

I think that’s all I can think of for now. Do you follow me on Pinterest? If not, you should 🙂 I just pinned a new Sesame Street inspired board that you should check out here with lots of fab ideas to make your party extra special. Hope this post helps when planning your child’s Elmo or Sesame Street party! 🙂 XO, m

WOW. I don’t even know what to say besides today is one of the best days of my life! (Well, for my business that is – obviously my wedding day and birth of my child are at the top :). Portfolio + Photo Cards + Press

Our Sesame Street Sign was featured on Cool Mom Picks on Friday!! I was soooo excited as it’s one of my favorite sites out there. Check out the feature here. It’s our most popular item in my etsy shop and I couldn’t be more excited that others think it’s cool, too. 🙂
Over the past couple weeks, I finally took the time to update my portfolio section and other areas of my website.Go check it out and let me know what you think! 🙂
I’ll be debuting a new Halloween/Fall Photo Card each day up until the official start of Fall (September 23rd). They will be available in my etsy shop for only $15 for the digital file. What is a digital file you ask? (That is my most asked question for those who are not familiar with etsy) A digital file means you are purchasing that design which I will customize using your wording and photos, etc. 🙂 I will then email you the completed high resolution.jpg file for you to either print from home or you can outsource and have a printer professionally print them for you (Kinko’s, Target, Shutterfly). I HIGHLY recommend mpix.com for any of your printing needs. Super cheap and the quality is amazing! A “green” route would be to simply email the file to your family and friends to enjoy.

Introducing…..SPOOKTACULAR PLAID…

I have a beyond exciting feature coming next week. Stay tuned! Til then I’ll be singing…”I’m so excited and I just can’t hide it!” XO, m

My Best Friends Wedding

I can’t even tell you how excited I am that my work was featured on Style Me Pretty TWICE in one week! It’s like a dream! That site is one of my absolute favorites and if you’re getting married be sure to check it out and bring a cup of coffee because I promise all of the inspiration will allow you to browse for hours.
My best friends yellow + gray vintage country June 18th wedding was featured last week so be sure to check out all of the amazing details and photos here. I was honored to not only stand in the wedding as a bridesmaid but also create all of the stationery. It’s one of my favorite designs to date. The zig-zag style invitation has become popular with my clients and I have to admit, it’s not something you see everyday, which I love. It’s kind of a new spin on the pocketfold – it folds flat but can stand up in a zig-zag if needed for a nice little display. Below are some of the fabulous photos of my work (minus the first one) taken by the amazing Ellie of Photography Studio 37.
Congrats, Amber + Andrew!! I’m so honored to be included in your big day. Everything was PERFECT. XO, m
