Decorating your Kitchen Island for Christmas with Hobby Lobby

This is a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of Hobby Lobby. The opinions and text are all mine.

Today I am sharing how to decorate your kitchen island for Christmas with Hobby Lobby! This is a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of Hobby Lobby. The opinions and text are all mine.

My Hobby Lobby Haul:

Merry + Bright Box

Small Santa Face Box

Gold Glass Tree

White & Gold Floral Tree

Red Candy Tree

Large Green Tree

Red + White Stripe Wrapping Paper

Set of 4 Small Bottle Brush Trees

Red/Gold Beaded Garland

Box of Red Glass Ornaments

Bows/Curly Bows

Happy Holidays Mug

Details:

Now lets get to it, decorating in the kitchen is tough for me since I don’t have a very fancy kitchen but I’m sharing some ideas for those of you who might be in the same boat. My island is pretty boring, eventually I would like to shiplap it or do something fun, but for now it’s pretty basic. I decided to use wrapping paper to decorate the front of my island to make it look like a Christmas present. Nothing crazy here guys – I simply used scotch tape! Easy peasy! I don’t like making things harder than they need to so why not just wrap it like you normally would a present! You can’t even tell the tape is there! 🙂

Where to start…

When I first thought to decorate my kitchen island, my first find was the Merry and Bright gift box and I decided to purchase trees in various heights and colors to match and set around and make a centerpiece. The key is to find different size trees and textures. The gold and clear striped one is glass, I also used some sparkle/glitter bottle brush trees to bring some glam into the room! OK, enough talking, come see more photos below – and yes, that hot chocolate was delish!! Also, sorry this spot in my house is VERY hard to photograph and I had to take these photos early in the morning when the sun wasn’t shining so this is as good as it could get. That darn metallic on the Merry and Bright box wasn’t helping either! Ha!

I hope this post gave you some inspiration to decorate your Kitchen Island for Christmas! If you don’t have an island, this would work great on your kitchen counter or as a centerpiece on a table or buffet. Don’t forget to grab your coupon for your next Hobby Lobby trip…

Tween Chic Bedroom Makeover

Today I’m excited to share with you my daughter’s tween chic bedroom makeover! As always, affiliate links are often used in my posts but all thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.

This may be my favorite “refresh” I’ve ever done! It’s amazing what a little wallpaper and new bedding can do! I’m in love with the ruffle curtains and bedding from Lush Decor. My daughter has been wanting a “more mature” looking room since she’s going to be the big 1-0 this year. She and I both just LOVE how this came together. The wallpaper is peel and stick wallpaper from WallPops – this is called “Make It Rain” from the Kelly Ripa Collection. Gray, white and blush pink for the win!

Let’s Decorate

Last on the agenda was to DECORATE! The first thing I spotted was the blush, gray and gold “Sparkle” pillow and I went from there. I found the darling wall art pieces from Target as well and ended up with a blush and gray theme with touches of GOLD. I absolutely LOVE this color scheme for a girl’s room of any age! Would be so pretty in a nursery, too.

I hope you enjoyed the details of my daughter’s girly + chic bedroom makeover. Which detail is your fav?

Decorating for fall with Afloral

This “Decorating for fall with Afloral” post is #sponsored by Afloral. All thoughts and opinions expressed are my own, as always. I first found Afloral when Jessica @idreamofhomemaking shared a photo of her darling kitchen with gorgeous blooms that I thought were real! Nope, all faux from Afloral, so I quickly jumped on their site and began browsing the pages upon pages of gorgeous stems!

Details

Fall may not be my favorite season, but decorating for fall surely is! This year, I wanted to keep my dining room decor pretty much the same, but add in a lot of color for my tablescape. That’s where Afloral came in – sunflowers, ranunculus, leaf branches, oh my!  Don’t they make the perfect addition to our farmhouse styled dining room? I wanted to leave my shelves neutral and make the table centerpiece the focal point with these colorful florals!

LOVING the pop of color – it is so vibrant now in our dining room! It sure is fall-ready up in here! This olive bucket (bought at my fav local spot – Rustic Roots in Sycamore) as seen in the middle of the table makes such a fabulous focal point. Farmhouse-y goodness I tell ya! What type of faux blooms are your favorite when decorating for fall?

Modern Mantel Makeover with Wallpaper

Today I’m sharing my modern mantel makeover – farmhouse style! Minus the farm 😉 Wink, wink. Listen, I totally know my mantel didn’t really need a makeover but it just wasn’t doing anything for me. It was time for a change. You can read more about my original mantel makeover when we first moved in our home and how I painted our tiles here. Below is a quick shot I took before I got started…

When I spotted this black and white stripe peel and stick wallpaper from Target – I loved the idea b/c it wasn’t a permanent change. And at $29.99 a roll you can’t beat it! It’s such a dramatic but simple change! And EASY! I couldn’t get over how different this space looks after I hung the wallpaper. It took me about a half hour to do and to be honest, it’s not perfect but the best part is – you wouldn’t even notice!

I added the faux white flowers and greens from Hobby Lobby. I fell in love with these when I saw Erin @cottonstem share a backdrop she made using these flowers. They’re so perfect and easy and come in three different sizes seen here. I used the large and medium sizes for my wall. I also found the galvanized pig in the Spring aisle seen here.

Now for the focal point. Harper Grayce nailed it with this amazing sign! In LOVE. You know I love me some farmhouse style, just missing the actual farm.

So tell me, what is your favorite part of my mantel refresh?! I love the classic, modern vibes and that I can change up the wallpaper design when I tire of it. But I don’t see that happening anytime soon!

I like the word refresh b/c it allows me to share updates to a room without doing a full blown renovation. Check out what our bedroom used to look like at our old home here. I feel like the new headboard and bedding set from Stone Cottage totally makes it look and feel much more calm and cozy. This headboard bed set is MY FAV and SO reasonably priced! It’s even more gorgeous in person – one of my favorite purchases I made for our new home!

And of course, one can never have too many pillows – am I right?! So many fun and different textures and patterns each of the pillows bring to the room.

Linen Closet Makeover & Organization Tips

I couldn’t be more excited to share with you our master bath linen closet makeover along with some organization tips! I need a shirt that says “I just want to organize all the things” because that is pretty much my life. The before is quite interesting isn’t it? Yellow walls and orange storage baskets that were much too small for this space = boring!

Thanks to Target, I was able to organize this space AND make it stylish! My go-to baskets for organizing are these fun (and inexpensive) plastic weave baskets that I bought in gray and white for only $5. I spotted these darling gold lid hobnail jars on clearance and they couldn’t be more perfect to hold our every day items. And I totally realize it’s impractical and silly to have a floral vase in a closet but it sure does make me smile every time I open up that door. It’s my closet and I’ll over-style if I want to. Ha!  I truly believe that organizing all the while making things pretty can really help reduce stress. Because nobody wants to be stressed out in their own home, am I right? When I was restyling this space, I ended up throwing out TONS of expired items and things that we never use. It felt good to organize and clean it all up!

Organization Tips

1. Find your storage containers that will fit the space – do not use too small of containers! Our shelves are pretty tall and deep, so I used larger baskets in ours.

2. Choose 2-4 colors for your theme. For our makeover, I used white, gray, wicker and a few shades of blue.

3. A closet can be pretty. Just because nobody else sees this space, doesn’t mean you won’t see it EVERY SINGLE DAY. So why not make it visually appealing too? I know, not practical but it is pretty. You can’t argue me there. 😉

4. Mix your storage containers using different price points. Organizing shouldn’t break the bank. I mix inexpensive containers along with more expensive ones. For instance, the gray and white weave plastic baskets were only $5 while the wicker basket on the ground was $29 (I got it on sale for $14.99 though – SCORE!) I’m all about the dollar store but I will say the quality isn’t as great so I do recommend using a bit higher priced container if you want these to last for years to come. Case in point – my too small, orange bins that I got in the Target dollar spot. They worked for a while, but ultimately didn’t get the job done.

Flooring

Are you ready for this!? I didn’t think so. Yup, our new flooring are PEEL AND STICK WALL TILES from Wallpops. I chose the Sienna pattern for our bathroom because I wanted to bring in some color with the added blues and gray tones in this tile since our bathroom is mostly neutral colors of gray, white and gold. I’m totally digging this color combo – but what do you think? They are water resistant and built to last so I’m so excited about this MUCH cheaper flooring options. Hello $100 floors compared to new flooring that would have cost probably $1,000 if I would have paid someone to do it. No thanks!

Gold Glass Jars: http://shopstyle.it/l/F4mZ
Floor Tiles: https://www.wallpops.com/fp2484-sienna-peel-and-stick-floor-tiles-by-floorpops.aspx

So what do you think? Let me know in the comments below! Hope this gets you excited to organize those closets! My pantry and master bath closet are now complete, but I have about seven other closets that need some serious help. 😉

Decorate a Mantel with Modern Farmhouse Style

Today I’m sharing how to decorate a mantel with modern farmhouse style! Here is a quick before and after of the space….

How to Decorate a Mantel with Modern Farmhouse Style

I’m OBSESSED with this transformation. She wanted neutrals with a few splashes of color – she suggested possibly using blues and greens. I added a few subtle touches of the greens and blues, while adding in some tiny pops of purple and yellow in the faux florals. Why did I use yellow? Well, if you look closely at the galvanized pieces of the windmill, there were some yellow spots see throughout and I wanted to pull from that.

Every item on the mantel is from Hobby Lobby except for the far right succulent. I’m loving all of the shades of brown in the woods used throughout and the pops of white really accent the fireplace tiles.

Tips for Styling a Mantel

I first focused on the focal point – the middle. I designed this entire mantel around this windmill. Next, I layered in the wood heart and family sign and added the white potted succulent – so four items total in the center. Lastly for the two sides – I used two items on the left and three on the right. My main goal for styling any shelf really is to use a different number of items throughout. So from left to right I used 2, 4, 3.  Another option that would work, is to move everything closer to the middle and group everything in really tight. Therefore, you would have more space on the ends of the mantel, but that wasn’t the look I wanted here.

Items Used:

Wood Windmill Sign

Family Sign

Green Glass Handle Bottle

Lavender Floral Spray

Lambs Ear Stems

Yellow Billy Button Spray

Blue Bud Vase

Colorful Spring Tablescape Inspiration

It’s March 12th so a colorful, spring tablescape post is a must right now! I’m so over this cold, gloomy weather and longing for sunshine and some warm days ahead! Who knows when the actual warmth will arrive, I decided to give our dining room table a little boost with faux florals and succulents, along with lots of vibrant hues. See, just looking at these pretty colors makes me happy!

If you’re a long-time follower then you know I’m all for the neutral and classic farmhouse colors in our home, but the second I spotted these scencic plates at Hobby Lobby I just knew they had to come home with me! There are four different styles to choose from so I grabbed one of each. Most of the items I used are from the Aloha collection in The Spring Shop. So vibrant and fun! I also LOVED these flamingo plates. Might go back and grab those too! I’m all about layers when it comes to tablescapes and as you can see I started with a rectangular place mat, two chargers, a plate, a paddle chalkboard and a napkin/napkin ring for the top! Phew! Less is more they say, and I’m over here like, keep on stacking! 😉

I simply added some loose stems I pulled apart from a few bunches of florals (also found at Hobby Lobby) and laid them around my scale.

Click on the links below to purchase the items seen on my tablescape:
Plates / Burlap Ruffle Placemats / White Charger / Pink Placemats / Magnolia Napkin Rings

So what do you think?! I hope this has you smiling and inspired for all things spring! Which is your fav? The plates have my heart and I’m just loving these beautiful shades of pink and green!
